        Literature is not always silent.

'1984' - Why it still matters today

A thought-provoking piece by the BBC (whom Orwell himself worked for for many years) about why this work is still important today and - perhaps most interestingly - how its significance has shifted throughout the years, to reflect the changing concerns of society.
What stuck out to you most as you read it? Why do you think that was?

        'Still I Rise'

Here is Maya Angelou (author of our book club favorite 'I Know Why The Caged Bird Sings') reciting her famous poem, 'Still I Rise'.

I don't know about you, but it gives me goosebumps every time!

Film Adaptation Review - 'The Great Gatsby'

A great video discussing the problems of adapting Fitzgerald's 'The Great Gatsby' to film. Maybe you've already seen the newest version with its star-studded cast. This critic suggests that it's not just the jarring modern soundtrack that causes problems, but also the film's glamorization of the life Fitzgerald condemns, and the essential imaginative nature of the novel which make it impossible to capture on the big screen.

Once you've read the book, by all means watch the film, but always remain critical!

Let us know what you thought. Do you agree with this reviewer?
